Angel Investors are a great alternative to other forms of business funding.  Surprisingly, Angel investors accounted for $30 billion worth of investment capital last year.  In comparison, Venture capitalists raised just over twice that much.  In other words, on top of the bounty made available through, there is another vast reservoir to be found in angel investors.  It is estimated that there about 400 000 angel investors in the US alone. 

What is an angel investor? In terms of an overall profile, they are usually older, with an minimum of $100 000 a year.  A typical angel investor is a successful entrepreneur looking to get in the ground floor of a start up.  Generally, a typical angel investor has a passion for entrepreneurship and will likely want to be involved with the operation of the company.  More often then not, angel investors like to invest in companies close to their home base. That is angel investors like to be near their investments. 

In most cases, an angel investor will look to invest between 5-7 and years into a project.  This is slightly longer then a typical venture capitalist.  Like their venture capitalist counterparts however, an angel investor is looking to make a return on their investment.  They are known for demanding fairly steep terms.  Angle investors tend to establish and exit strategy very early into the development process.
