Low in cash? Barter is the answer for many

Barter is no longer confined to directly exchanging goods and services one to one, or even face to face. Barter has evolved to a new level made possible by the Internet and the innovations of modern traders.

Barter is the art of trading what you have for what you want, and it is now the preferred currency of many entrepreneurs who prefer to keep their money in the bank as they expand their business.

Businesses do not need to directly exchange with each other, and there is often no need to even be in the same state to conduct an exchange. If, for example, you are a member of a barter exchange living in New Hampshire, you can sell your surplus inventory to another member in Oregon who pays you in trade credits instead of dollars.

You are happy because you got rid of idle inventory, found a new customer, and obtained trade credits you can now use to get what you need. The customer obtained needed supplies without spending cash.

You can then take those trade credits and use them to purchase advertising services you need from a company in Florida. Your trade dollars enabled you to make your purchase sooner because you did not need to use cash.

However, there has always been a major challenge for a new business when joining a barter exchange – you cannot buy on trade until you first sell on trade to get those valuable trade dollars in your account.

That problem has been solved at FirstBarter.com where new members are given $1,500 in trade dollars on credit with no interest.

“Now a new member can join today and begin trading today,” explained Tom Shipman, president of FirstBarter.com. “We have another great advantage – there is no fee to join. Just sign up and start trading.”

The $1,500 credit is provided to new members who provide a valid credit card in the registration process. The credit can be used immediately to trade with other members, and it can be paid back as the new member successfully sells by trade at a later time. No interest is charged for the credit.

“I have a small business, and money is extremely tight. I was stuck with the problem of needing advertising to obtain customers, but there just was no cash available to make that happen,” explained William Jensen, of Creative Concepts.

“I discovered FirstBarter.com and began searching the member list for ways to advertise my fledgling company. I discovered ThatPRGuy.com and did my first trade using the credit I got for signing up. He sent out a press release, wrote a news story and got it published in several places, and even sent a special ‘hot sheet’ to talk show hosts to get me interviewed on the radio,” said Jensen.

FirstBarter.com has created a web site that members use to list what they have to offer. Anyone can search the available products and services. When you find a match, FirstBarter.com handles the transaction and keeps an of trade dollars available to each member.

FirstBarter.com is not only open to business owners. Anyone with something to sell is encouraged to sell for trade dollars.

“Once you participate in a trade or two you will come to know how fantastic it is to trade for what you offer and for what you need. Once you start you will use it more and more,” said Sandy Marcucci of Marcucci Family Estates.

“Everything you normally pay cash for you can obtain with trade credits. Your office furniture, computers, printers, computer repair, software, phone system, office supplies, carpet, art for your walls, and professional services like accountants, lawyers and cleaning services can all be obtained through trade,” said Marcucci.

“Our members also trade for show tickets, restaurants, airline tickets, resort and hotel stays, and even cars and boats. Many people even trade for health club memberships, medical services, and dental work. If you need it there is a good chance you can find it either already available on the exchange, or have patience and it will become available. This is the real cashless society,” said John Volz, of FirstBarter.com.
