Depression often triggers feelings of worthlessness and failure. One of the first steps in depression self help is to monitor and regulate ones emotions. This is like self censorship. When these feelings begin to surface, it is important to replace them with positive ones.
Self help strategies also include monitoring the language one uses to describe their feelings. Again, the depression self help strategy dictates that you move away from negative language and move toward positive language.
Another depression related self help strategy is to set obtainable, realistic goals to help boost your overall mood and confidence. Further, large, complicated things should be broken down into more manageable things. For example, cleaning the house can seem daunting, but is much more manageable when tackled room by room. The outcome is the same but the process and emotional results are dramatically different.
These are but a few depression self help strategies available to anyone looking to help themselves. With these and other depression self help strategies, improvement comes gradually not immediately. This can be said of most forms of therapy but holds especially true for self help.
